Because it is rarer, arrives in single unrepeatable lots, and it is the only stone we sell that transmits light. For comparison, our Italian marble runs ₹330–2,000 and granite ₹125–850. If the translucency is not the point of your project, onyx is probably not the right buy — and we would rather tell you that.
Is there a cheaper alternative that looks similar?
Yes. Our onyx-look quartz is ₹750 per sq ft — under half the price of the cheapest real onyx, non-porous, and durable enough for a working counter. The honest difference: it will not glow when backlit. For a bar front you use daily, take the quartz. For a lit feature wall, buy the real onyx — nothing else does that.
Do you install onyx?
No — we are supply only, and with onyx that matters more than with any other stone. It is soft and layered, so laying needs a genuinely experienced mason. Arrange yours before you buy, and get their quote alongside our ₹1,600–₹2,500/sq ft material rate. We do fabricate table tops in-house.
Can onyx be used for flooring?
Yes, and it is our most common onyx job — but it must be laid carefully and sealed. Right for foyers, living rooms and bedrooms; wrong for kitchens, street-facing entrances and anywhere outdoors. Claudia and White Frank at ₹1,600 are the two we would recommend for a floor. Full detail above.
How does backlighting actually work?
An evenly diffused LED panel sits behind the slab. The panel must be properly diffused — individual LED strips show as hot spots straight through the stone, which is the most common way this goes wrong on site. Green Onyx and the Brown lots have the strongest glow. Ask us to confirm whether we can supply the panel alongside the slab.
Is onyx suitable for a kitchen countertop?
No, and we will say so. Onyx is porous and soft — turmeric, oil and lemon will mark it within weeks in an Indian kitchen. Use quartz (from ₹750) or granite (from ₹125) on the platform and put the onyx somewhere it will be admired instead: a bar top, a vanity, a backlit wall.
Will you have the same onyx again next year?
Almost certainly not. Onyx arrives in single lots with unrepeatable veining. If a slab suits your project, reserve it — we would rather tell you that now than take a deposit and disappoint you later.
How do I maintain onyx??
Seal on installation and re-seal periodically — six to twelve months is typical, sooner in a bathroom. Wipe spills immediately and use a pH-neutral cleaner only, never acid. In Kolkata's humidity, onyx in a wet area needs more attention than onyx on a wall.
What is the minimum order?
There is no minimum order, but we recommend at least 28 sq ft to ensure a consistent look across the area you are covering.
